How do you know if your cat is overweight? Well, first you should be able to feel their ribcage, although thin cats have a little bit of a stomach in between their hind legs. Between the hips and ribs, you should notice a waist rather than a bulge.
An overweight cat is an unhealthy cat. An overweight cat can run into some serious health issues such as liver disease, arthritis, renal disease and heart failure, so it’s important to get and keep it’s weight down.
Certain reasons for becoming overweight are boredom, stress, competition with other cats when it comes to food and consuming excessive amounts of food do to not being able to digest it properly.
You do not need to starve your cat to help it lose weight. Just be sure to choose the right foods. Premium cat food is good and staying away from cat food that includes excessive amounts of fiber.
