Anyone who knows me will tell you that I absolutely worship the sun. I love it. Life without it would be horrible in my opinion. Any and every chance I get I lie in the sun and work on my tan. Although I understand about the importance of using a high sun protection moisturizer, I normally don’t. This is a big mistake, I realize that, and I will most likely pay for it later on in life. But for now, there I am, every chance I get lying down in my lawn chair or flopping in my pool letting the warm rays of the sun beat upon me.
Well, one particular day as I was laying in my pool floating around in pure bliss, I fell asleep. Again, since I do not believe in using a high sun protection moisturizer, it was bad news. I woke up about 3 hours later fried. When I say fried, I am referring to the same way a lobster gets after it has been boiled for 15 to 20 minutes.
It was really not a pretty site, and although I can laugh about it now, I was not a very happy camper then. I couldn’t walk for days and I even had to go to the emergency room because I thought I had second degree burns. My husband had to work during the days so I still had to be the mom of a baby and a toddler. That was not an easy task I tell you.
My husband would come home after a long day at work and toss me in a baking soda bath (well not toss me) and then rub aloe vera all over my burnt skin afterwards. That would help my situation temporarily, but within minutes, I was in agony all over again. So, there I would be laying down on the couch or in my bed while my husband made dinner and did the dishes which drove me nuts (yeah right!).
Needless to say, I spent most of my first three days lying on the couch in complete agony, only getting up to feed my boys and use the bathroom. It was the worst three days of my life. I will tell you this though, a lesson that I have definitely learned was to make sure that I now use some kind of sun protection on my skin and drink plenty of caffeine before I decide to lay out in the sun again.
