The Dave Chappelle Show - watch it here!

Even though Dave Chappelle has not been active in the last couple of years, his previous work will always be remembered as some of the wittiest comedy in history. To understand why I say this, consider some of the skits he created during his time with the Comedy show Chappelle Show.

For instance, during the first season Chappelle created a skit showcasing a black "white" supremacist. How did this happen? Well, the main character had been born blind, so he didn’t know he was black. His teachers made things worse by telling him he was white to make his life easier.

Consequently, the character became a supremacist saying racist things that were hilarious. He also made fun of Southern, "redneck" culture when he said, "If anybody’s gonna be sleepin’ with my sister, it’s gonna be me!"

The skit continued with the character attending a white supremacist conference. He decided he would take off his hood and reveal his face. The crowd was shocked– one person’s head even exploded. It was then he had to accept that he was black. But still holding onto his racist views, he had to divorce his white wife because she was a "n***er-lover." This crass yet brilliant ending showcases the quirky genius Chappelle presents when doing his comedy.

Chappelle also became famous for his "Rick James" skits, where he invented the catch phrase, "I’m Rick James, b***h!" People still say that to him out on the streets which he finds annoying.

This, in combination with other personal reasons, lead Chappelle to cancel his show. He just didn’t want the pressure, despite the fact he was given $60 million to do another season. Many people looked down on that decision, but they don’t understand that Chappelle has everything he needs right now. Even without the $60 million, he is rich enough to live a peaceful, stress-free life. If he wanted easy money, he could easily get an advert for almost anything, from cosmetic surgery through to supermarkets or cars. Money isn’t important to him, but his health and state of mind are. So it appears that’s his priority at least for the time being.

Of course, if Chappelle gets a chance to read this article, I hope he realizes that he can still do his comedy without corporate pressure. With Youtube and other social networking sites, he could do comedy just for fun, while still doing things on his terms. But if he doesn’t decide to do this, at least he left one gem of his legacy– the Chappelle Show.
